Leaking gas wells in Tara: the real story

ABC Radio presenter Steve Austin interviewed Scott Collins on the 30th July, 2010. Mr Collins is a property owner at Tara and the resident who purchased his own gas testing equipment to check for gas well head leaks. It was his complaint that lead to the state government inspection of well heads around Tara.

Mr Collins outlines the extent of the health problems currently experienced by the community, and the potential catastrophic risks of having these wells within 100 metres of the rural residential estates.

The Western Downs Alliance want a moratorium on coal seam gas mining. They are campaigning for a five kilometre exclusion zone  around residental estates. They believe that the government must intervene to protect the families in the area from this intrusive and toxic form of mining, the dumping of untreated CSG water on our roads and in our dams, and the potential catastrophic consequences of leaking gas wells.
