The Queensland Coal Industry
Coal is the most polluting source of power the world uses.
As the largest coal exporting state in the largest coal exporting country in the world, Queensland is literally at the ‘coal face’ of climate change.
Although Queensland coal already accounts for as much as 20% of the global trade, the current expansion plans of the state government will double our coal exports – and our contribution to climate change.
At a time when the rest of the world is looking to reduce greenhouse gases, the Queensland government is expanding coal production at an unprecedented rate.
Our dependence on the coal industry is the major impediment to genuine government action on climate change.
