Sign our Petition to Protect Farmland from Coal Seam Gas

With over 40,000 Coal Seam Gas wells planned for southern Queensland alone, this uncontrolled experiment threatens the future of our food supply and the Great Artesian Basin on which our farmers and rural towns depend. Sign this petition to halt the massive expansion of this experimental industry until the long term environmental, social and health impacts are known.

The petition asks the members of the Queensland Parliament to recognise:

  • the present and potential impacts the Coal Seam Gas (CSG) industry development is having on water quality, security, inter-aquifer contamination of the GAB, sub-artesian and shallow alluvium aquifers;
  • the inadequate management of CSG water and byproducts,
  • the disruption to agricultural businesses and culture due to CSG activities;
  • the inadequate legislation for 'make good' provisions, land access and compensation regimes governing the CSG industry;  and
  • the lack of support being given to our clean green food producers by State and Federal Governments.

It calls on the Queensland Parliament to:

  • immediately enact a moratorium on all future CSG activities until an independent peer-reviewed investigation into the long-term environmental, social and infrastructure consequences of the CSG industry in Queensland is undertaken.

The CSG industry is expanding at a phenomenal rate.

Our understanding of the impacts are insufficient. Our laws and regulations are playing catch up.

We have one chance to rein it in before our vital productive land and our irreplaceable natural environment is sacrificed to the gas rush.

Be counted: add your name to those calling for a precautionary approach to the CSG industry.
