We're taking Xstrata to court, but can't do it without you. Help us take a stand against the plans to build the biggest coal mine in the southern hemisphere.

The Friends of the Earth coal campaign has come a long way in the last few years. Faced with the combined threat of dangerous climate change and the rampant expansion of the coal industry, we decided we had to stand up and take action. For the past three years we've worked with the people directly affected by the expanding coal industry, brought the message back to the city by holding information evenings, movie nights and creative protests, lobbied politicians and worked hard to bring concerned people together.

Now, Xstrata plan to big the biggest coal mine in the southern hemisphere, here in Wandoan. They plan on extracting 30 million tonnes of coal each year - more than double the largest coal mine currently in Queensland. Over its lifetime, this one mine will be responsible for more than 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.

We can't just sit by and let this happen. So we're challenging their plans in court and we need your support.
